The 8×30 “Deltrimtem” was launched by Carl Zeiss / Jena in 1920, and continued in production until 1990. These binoculars are the Carl Zeiss DDR 8×30 “Deltrintem” Q1 (Quality 1) export version, with coated lenses, serial number 4011053, manufactured in 1973.

Genuine “Made In DDR” — Deutsche Demokratische Republik (German Democratic Republic, East Germany) — a socialist, client state of the Soviet Union in Central Europe, during the Cold War period from 1949 to 1990.

These binoculars give wide, super bright, razor sharp views. Zeiss “Deltrintem” was always the more expensive of the two Zeiss 8x30s, the “Jenoptem” being the other. This example carries the coveted “Q1” service mark that signifies these binoculars are built with the expensive, specially selected, “Q1” Quality 1 export lenses, with beautiful blue lens coating.

Focus adjustments are silky smooth, correct and precise. Very bright, very wide field (154@1000 yards – 8.5 degrees) and very sharp, with perfectly collimated image — perfect for sports, bird watching, ship and aircraft spotting.

These binoculars also have the expensive, burgundy velour lined, hard tan leather case with Zeiss trademark logo, chrome catch, and Zeiss black leather adjustable straps.

In spite of being more than 40 years old, the paintwork is in top condition, and the lettering is still crisp and white. This 8×30 “Deltrimtem” was sold in Britain.
